SAFETY

This course does not aim to provide students with all the knowledge necessary to work on hybrid or Electric vehicles. Smog Tech Institute warns technicians to strictly adhere to all published safety guidelines when working on or around hybrid and electric cars. The institute recommends a higher level of training than what this course offers to ensure safety. High-voltage systems are powerful and hazardous and can result in fatal accidents for technicians who do not have sufficient training.

Subjects covered include:

1. Describe the operation of DC and AC electric motors. 

2. Explain how a brushless DC motor works. 

3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using electric motors in hybrid electric vehicles. 

4. Describe how a DC-to-DC converter works. 

5. Discuss how a DC-to-AC inverter works. 

6. Prepare for the ASE L3 certification text area “D” (Power Electronics).
