About This CourseThe main focus of this course is to teach diagnostic strategies that today’s technicians can use to reduce diagnostic time and improve diagnostic accuracy. The course emphasizes the use of diagnostic information and systems built into modern vehicles, including Mode 6, fuel trim data, OBD II information, and emission diagnostic monitors. The course begins with a review of basic computer operation to help students understand how vehicle computers process information and make decisions. It then explains the purpose and function of the OBD II system before moving into practical diagnostic approaches, including the 8-step diagnostic process, symptom-based diagnostics, Mode 6 interpretation, and fuel trim diagnosis. The instructor has over 25 years of experience in the automotive industry and serves as both a technical advisor and automotive instructor. Each chapter includes a full video presentation and an assessment designed to reinforce student learning. At the conclusion of the course, students must complete a final assessment with a passing score of 70% or higher to receive credit and proof of completion.
